Click here! ► TrustSanta.com The Zeroids were a line of toy robots from the Planet Zero introduced by the Ideal Toy Company in 1967. Consisting of Zerak, Zintar and Zobor, the Zeroids powered their way into the imaginations of young boys for nearly a decade. Zeroid robots were powered by a small DC electric motor that could be removed. These DC motors appeared as the brand name "Motorific" in Ideal Corp racing slot cars, and "Boaterific" powered scale motorboats. The original sales pitch read, "Moving across the landscape, overrunning all obstacles as inexorably as the Future itself, these amazing, efficient and powerful automatons have but one purpose - to serve their masters at work and play!" The storage cases in which the robots came could be used for other purposes. The robots were battery operated, and had wheels with rubber treads to propel themselves across the floor. There was a bottom mounted reversing switch that would all the robot to reverse when it touched a special plastic plate, or turn the robot off, when in backed up into its display case. Zerak, the blue robot, was originally the "commander" of the three robots. Zerak came with hook hands, and interchangeable magnetic hand and a throwing cup hand. Zerak's right arm could be cocked, and made to throw objects. Zobor, the "Bronze" Robot, could "transport" lightweight items in his storage case ...

Mobile gaze-based screen interaction in 3D environments

Presenting a method that enables the user to interact with any planar digital display in a 3D environment using a head-mounted eye tracker. An effective method for identifying the screens in the field of view of the user is also presented which can be applied in a general scenario in which multiple users can interact with multiple screens. BlinkI: Using eye blinks for signalling messages or controlling objects

BlinkI uses eye blinks performed to the rhythm of songs for signalling messages or controlling objects. The eyeblinks are detected using a standard webcam. Such a system could be used by someone who is paralyzed to trigger pre-trained messages or control objects in their environment. We also explored using eyeblinks to control wearable computers using a proximity sensor mounted next to a head-up display to detect the eyeblinks. Using shorter, more subtle patterns, the wearable computer user can trigger actions on his computer without interrupting a conversation or bothering bystanders. Surprisingly, eyeblinks can be used as a biometric to verify the identity of the blinker. Imagine a door security system with a video camera where a person who wants to gain entry walks up to the system and blinks their personal pattern (similar to a PIN). It is more secure than typing in a PIN on a number pad because eyeblinking is more difficult for a bystander to see. However, even if an intruder knew the pattern, individual differences in the motion of a person's eyeblinks would alert the security system to the intruder even though he performed the correct pattern. Combining the system with face recognition further improves security. This demo was created by Joseph Park to illustrate the concept while he was a post-doc at Professor Thad Starner's Contextual Computing Group. The BMW E70 automobile platform is the development name for the current X5 SAV/SUV. It replaced the BMW E53 in November 2006. The new generation BMW X5 is 60 mm (2.4 in) wider, 165 mm (6.5 in) longer; with a 110 mm (4.3 in) longer wheelbase, but remains at the height of the previous generation X5 at 1766 mm (69.5 in). It is manufactured alongside the new, 2008 BMW X6 at BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina plant in the USA. The xDrive AWD system updates previewed in the facelifted X3 have continued with further detail improvements for the E70. The E70 features many new technological advancements for this class as standard equipment including BMW's iDrive system, electronic 'joystick' gearshift (no mechanical connection to the gearbox to win space in the console), LED taillamps, and options such as head-up display HUD, active steering, and active damping. The interior of the new, larger, X5 is completely new. Underwater Augmented Reality (UWAR)

Implementation of a novel prototypical Underwater Augmented Reality (UWAR) system that provides visual aids to increase commercial divers' capability to detect, perceive, and understand elements in underwater environments. During underwater operations, a great amount of stress is imposed on divers by environmental and working conditions such as pressure, visibility, weightlessness, current, etc. Those factors cause a restriction in divers' sensory inputs, cognition and memory, which are essentials for locating within the surroundings and performing their task effectively. The focus of this research was to improve some of those conditions by adding elements in divers' views in order to increase awareness and safety in commercial diving operations. We accomplished our goal by assisting divers in locating the work site, keeping informed about orientation and position (constantly), and providing a 3D virtual model for an assembling task. The system consisted of a video see-through head mounted display (HMD) with a webcam in front of it, protected by a custom waterproof housing placed over the diving mask. As a very first step, optical square-markers were used for positioning and orientation tracking purposes (POSE). The tracking was implemented with a ubiquitous-tracking software (Ubitrack).
